Bible Reading Plans

I first started reading through the Bible yearly about 6 years ago. Before that I had assumed that I had read all of the Bible because I read it a lot and studied it weekly to prepare for preaching. But that first year I ran into so many strange and wonderful things in my reading that I soon realized that I hadn’t ever read vast swaths of Scripture. It was so exciting and encouraging that I have kept the practice (with varying success) ever since.

How about you? Would you consider reading through the whole Bible in 2015? It actually doesn’t take that long to read each book of the Bible and there’s no other practice you could start in 2015 that would benefit your life more that reading Scripture.

I have been agonizing over which reading plan to do in 2015 and I have decided to go with the “Daily Reading Bible” plan (below). I like that it gives me an Old Testament reading, a New Testament reading, and a Psalm each day. That way I’ll enjoy the whole Bible once in a year and the Psalms twice.

Below are the reading plans from the ESV website. The advantage of picking one of these is that you can sign up to get a daily email of the day’s passage. Since I use my email inbox as a to-do list I’ll have a built in reminder to read. Also, their emails include a “listen” link that will play a recording of Max McLean reading the passages for the days that I’m just too exhausted to read it myself (McLean’s voice is amazing by the way).

The best part of reading through the Bible in a year is that Christ himself walks among its pages and will meet you there along the way.

So take a look, choose a plan, and enjoy the very words of God every day this new year!
